Case Study: How We Built Yuremane.com
Since May of 2024, Yuremane has been crafting high-quality products that drive a craze among consumers that's compounded by a flash-sale only business model. The brand has been able to scale production, advertising and sales to meet the demand of consumers, with over a thousand orders being placed during each drop and shipping within 2-3 weeks. Continue reading to learn how we built and scaled yuremane.com to handle over 9,000 concurrent users during flash sales.
The Vision

Nik came to us with a vision to project the child-like wonder of the world through his products, and even more so, through the experience of purchasing them. With hand-drawn typeface, logo and vectorized graphics provided by Nik, we were able to create a website that was playful, minimalist, and most importantly, performant. While the VWS team initially considered using Shopify Liquid, we quickly realized that the the best way to bring Nik's vision to life was to build a custom headless storefront.
In just under 4 weeks, Verdugo Web Services delivered a website that was ready to handle the first line of Yuremane's products, which sold out in 15 seconds. Yuremane's first drop was a monumental success, and VWS engineers breathed a sigh of relief as the website handled roughly a thousand concurrent users with ease.
The Challenge
The flash sale model is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it creates a sense of urgency and exclusivity that drives sales. On the other hand, it creates a bottleneck that can lead to a poor user experience and cause outages. Huge spikes in traffic require a website that can scale up and down quickly, as well as battle-tested payment processing that scales with the load. Building such a system from scratch is not small feat, and the VWS team assessed that a 3rd party payment processor and SKU management system would be necessary.
Our Solution
Thankfully, the VWS engineering team was able to harness the power of Next.js running on Vercel to seamlessly update users' carts and manage inventory levels in real-time. This created a seamless user experience that gracefully hands off traffic from yuremane.com to Shopify's secure payment gateway, which mitigates any risks of overselling or AI-powered purchase bots. Since Nik's first drop, VWS has employed a variety of strategies to ensure that yuremane.com is always ready for the next drop, including:
- Robust end-to-end testing
- Load testing with k6
- Google Analytics and Search Console integrations for analyzing post-drop traffic patterns
- Shopify Analytics for sales analytics
- Uptime Kuma for monitoring
These strategies have allowed us to scale yuremane.com to handle over 180,000 users since its inception, all while adding new features such as a custom process page for showing behind the scenes of the production process. Workiin with Nik has been an absolute pleasure, and we are proud to continue to support and maintain his website as his brand and vision grow.
